Adaptive reuse of a former maritime industry building into office spaces for a multimedia production company. Built in the early 20th century along the Lachine Canal, the building reflects the modernity of industrial architecture of its time. Two large halls, equipped with hoists and overhead cranes, are served by massive garage doors through which boat components were once handled.

The design strategy is threefold: first, to reveal and reinforce the building’s inherent logic by preserving visual transparency and enhancing circulation along the perimeter through the addition of a walkway and a mezzanine, while using materiality to clarify spatial organization; concrete floors for public areas, hardwood for private spaces, and steel for circulation. Second, to create a dialogue between past and present, where the texture of the existing structure contrasts with smooth, precise contemporary interventions. Third, to reinforce the building’s monumental scale by introducing interventions of a corresponding magnitude.
